Often times we feel like we need to spend the money to buy a bunch of toys to keep our kids entertained. I don’t know why we continue to believe it is true when we clearly see that they are often more entertained with the boxes in which the toys come. My kids often are more entertained with my things, Tupperware or turning a variety of household items into creative solutions for play. We have some fun play-doh toys, but we have also done a great activity with none of our toys. Our kids help me make cakes and cupcakes. They love having a full go of it with play-doh. Fondant is actually a lot like play doh, so it’s great practice for them, but they don’t have to be too careful. If you give them a mini muffin tin or even a normal size muffin tin, they can pretend to make cupcakes. I have silicone cupcake baking cups too, which work great. They can roll out snakes to make frosting and decorate however they want. This has kept my kids occupied for quite some time and they ignore all the fancy toys they’ve been given.
