Kids are more likely to be excited about food if they have a hand in preparing it. I was letting Abby attempt to make her own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at a young age. She is now branching out. It has been exciting for us to build our own garden. For the kids to be able to be part of the the process of planting, picking and preparing gives them ownership over their food. My middle child in no way branches out like Abby. I have found, however, that my oldest will try new things and be more willing to eat things when she is a part of the process. The above picture is when she decided to make herself a salad as a snack. Pretty exciting to experience her eagerness for that as a snack option – her suggestion. I think the idea mostly came because she was excited to prepare it.
