My husband either came up with this idea or heard it somewhere, but we did it pre-blogging era. As I was doing laundry yesterday and a sock fell between the dryer and washer, I pulled it out easily. I thought, “I need to share this with my readers!” So, here I am sharing it. Just cut out a strip of carpet to put between your washer and dryer. As things fall between the two, you pull this strip out to retrieve your item. Works perfectly.
