Day #280 Consistency Word Ring – Character Development, Week #41

Consistency
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadiest, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” – 2 Corinthians 15:58
Definition: The achievement of a level of performance that does not vary greatly in quality over time

Reason Chosen: I’m wondering if this word was chosen more for us (the parents) or them (the kids). Admittedly, I haven’t been as consistent lately, and it’s showing. It can be a really exhausting job…this parenting gig, and I must admit at times I’m lazier than I should be. We need to work on consistency around here from all angles. The kids behavior definitely isn’t consistent. They will be angels a lot of the time and then suddenly turn on us. It’s like night and day. There are a lot of behavioral issues we’ve worked on throughout their lives, and sometimes you wonder if they have ever learned the things we are trying to teach. I’ve found myself saying things like, “Have you ever gotten what you want by whining and crying? Why are you trying it now?” We, as a family, feel like we have taken some backward steps in this area, so we’re cracking down again. As for the lifelong benefits of consistency? There is a huge benefit in life to be a bit more even keeled. You want people to know what to expect from your behavior and to be able to know they can count on you. When you are known for being consistent, you gain credibility.

Word Ring At the beginning of each week, the craft will be exactly the same because we will simply be adding a new word to our already established word ring.

Materials Needed

* Stock Card Paper (I had a whole stack like this – found at any craft store)
* Assorted Sticker Letters (I just bought a bunch on clearance at Michael’s)

* Binder Clips (Craft Store)* Paper Cutter or Scissors* Hole Punch The girls chose a paper style they thought would look good with the letters they chose.  We then helped them sound out “consistency.” They took turns finding the letters we needed and sticking them on the paper…they’re kids – the letters will not be stuck on perfect.  I then cut the paper to the same size as the paper from last week. We punched a hole in the corner and stuck it on our binding clip.  Each week, a new word will be added to the clip in similar fashion.  I then wrote the Bible verse on the back.  If your kids are older, have them do it themselves.  We’ll spend this week learning the word, meaning and memorizing the scripture.
