Day #279 Curiosity About God – Character Development, Week #40

The perfect “curiosity” moment presented itself this week. Abby asked me about God. I love her curiosity about God. As I have expressed in the past, faith hasn’t necessarily come easy to me, but the Bible has proven true under the pressure of my unending questions. God has been faithful on a personal level as well. I invite hard questions from my kids in the future because those challenging questions have been what has grown my faith to a deeper level. The question Abigail asked, “Where is God?” She wanted to know if he was just in heaven. She wondered if you could get to God by taking an airplane or a rocket. She knew Jesus could reside within her as well. She wanted clarification on all of these things. The best answer I could give is that God is omnipresent – he is everywhere. No, you can’t take a rocket ship to go see him in heaven. However, he’s not confined by time and space. That is why relationship with him is possible. He wants this intimate relationship with us. I was able to talk to Abby about God being everywhere, and I found these verses to help you also explore this idea.

Psalm 139:7-12

New International Version (NIV)
Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,

    for darkness is as light to you..

Jeremiah 23:23-24

New International Version (NIV)
23 “Am I only a God nearby,
declares the Lord,
    “and not a God far away?
24 Who can hide in secret places
    so that I cannot see them?”
declares the Lord.
    “Do not I fill heaven and earth?”
declares the Lord.

Proverbs 15:3

New International Version (NIV)
The eyes of the Lord are everywhere,
    keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Hebrews 13:5

New International Version (NIV)
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”[a]
New International Version (NIV)
15
For this is what the high and exalted One says—

    he who lives forever, whose name is holy:

“I live in a high and holy place,

    but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,

to revive the spirit of the lowly

    and to revive the heart of the contrite.

New International Version (NIV)
21 “His eyes are on the ways of mortals;
    he sees their every step.

Isaiah 43:2

New International Version (NIV)
When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.
