Day #270 Teaching Persuasiveness – Character Development, Week #39

Persuasiveness
“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.” – 2 Timothy 2:24

There aren’t pictures of this activity because it involved girls curled up with me on the bed talking. Sometimes I wish I had a photographer just following me around. Sometimes I don’t! With the kids their age, I’m really teaching persuasiveness in simple terms. Today I asked if they could describe persuasiveness. Abby, especially, was able to explain it well. She also talked about watching someone be persuasive today. I asked her all sorts of questions about that, and we concluded it is most effective when you have a good attitude, listen, are kind and show enthusiasm. I then presented some ideas that I wanted the girls to try and see if they agreed with. If they didn’t agree, they had to persuade me to think differently. I did this with things that were simple for them to grasp. Here are the things I presented.
1. Cats are the smallest animal in the world.
2. Red is the best color for a car, so they shouldn’t make cars any other color except red.
3. Roosters are definitely the loudest animal there is (This was Abby’s that I had to try and be persuasive wasn’t the truth).
4. There is no truth or right and wrong. This is definitely a bigger issue. It’s my early attempt to combat a post modern thinking.
We had some good discussions about all of these. Abby, especially, grasped the exercise and communicated well. Kenzie, at 3, is probably still a bit young.
