Day #252 Creativity Word Ring – Character Development, Week #37

Creativity
He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers. – Exodus 35:35
(Younger kids can memorize the underlined part)

Definition: The use of imagination or original ideas.

Reason Chosen: Don’t get me wrong in choosing creativity. I am not encouraging everyone to become a crafter. Not at all. We are all given different creative gifts. Some people are creative in the way their mind thinks. Others are creative in a skilled, craftsman way. Others may be gifted musicians. Others may be creative in writing or others in how they choose to use their bodies in athletic pursuits. God promised he created us in His image, and He is creative, so there is a touch of creativity in everyone. We can grow this with practice. Although some children may not have a bent toward certain kinds of creativity, it will still help them grow through exposure and practice. Not everyone is expected to become a Michelangelo or Mozart, but everyone can enjoy creative expression. Also, everyone can learn to think more out of the box. Being creative has a lot of benefits that flow out to every area of life.

Word Ring At the beginning of each week, the craft will be exactly the same because we will simply be adding a new word to our already established word ring.

Materials Needed

* Stock Card Paper (I had a whole stack like this – found at any craft store)
* Assorted Sticker Letters (I just bought a bunch on clearance at Michael’s)

* Binder Clips (Craft Store)

* Paper Cutter or Scissors

* Hole Punch

The girls chose a paper style they thought would look good with the letters they chose.  We then helped them sound out “creativity.” They took turns finding the letters we needed and sticking them on the paper…they’re kids – the letters will not be stuck on perfect.  I then cut the paper to the same size as the paper from last week. We punched a hole in the corner and stuck it on our binding clip.  Each week, a new word will be added to the clip in similar fashion.  I then wrote the Bible verse on the back.  If your kids are older, have them do it themselves.  We’ll spend this week learning the word, meaning and memorizing the scripture.
