I have independent little souls I’m raising. “I can do it,” was one of their first phrases. I haven’t had to battle this a lot, but I would encourage you to take the time to let or make your kids do new things. When they say, “I can’t,” it generally means, “I won’t.” I’m not saying that you shouldn’t serve your family. Serving is an important thing to model. However, children are only going to grow and learn by letting them try. Things are going to take longer. Try and plan for that. It may take patience and teaching, but with consistency in you letting them gain independence, you can watch them grow and celebrate their successes. You cripple a child when you do everything for them. Will it be perfect? Nope. Will it be efficient? Nope. Will there be messes, spills and accidents in the process? Yes. This is all part of the process. Embrace it.
