Day #233 – Set Parameters on Media

Make sure you know what is going into your children’s brains via the media. Yes, it’s all around us – television, cell phones, Facebook, internet, YouTube, movies, books and music. There is no avoiding technology that is entering our world. However, you can set guidelines as to how much and what is allowed within your home. As a parent, be willing to turn off what you want to watch too. Set the example. Use the filters on your computer, phones and DVR. If you don’t know how to do it, find someone that can. I found this instruction to censoring YouTube. What you are watching can pollute your mind. Even if you’re an adult and think you have it all figured out, it’s important to guard what goes into your own mind. Your kids are just as vulnerable. Help them learn to make wise choices with their hearts, but also prevent inappropriate media input with the tools that are in place for monitoring it. My husband was able to look through a kids’ music files on his program and uncover the awful music he had hidden there. Let your kids know there will be monitoring and set systems in place to protect them.
