Day #214 – Today is a New Day

Today is a new day. I needed to start the day with that attitude today. Yesterday was not so good. Everyone was off. Kids seemed to fall apart at the smallest things. Kenzie is trying to drop a nap, and she’s so ready for that and so not ready at the same time. Corban is teething.  The girls were at each other. Everyone was on edge. I wasn’t handling things well. Sometimes I know exactly what I’m suppose to do, but I get too lazy or just plain tired of always being “on,” and I take a day of rest from parenting…even though my kids are still here and still need to be guided in the right ways. I went to bed last night saying to myself, “I will act differently tomorrow.” I woke up this morning and said to myself, “Today is a new day. I will respond better.” I heard my husband talking to my girls last night at bedtime saying that today would be a day they would respect their mom. I also heard him give the reminder this morning before he was leaving. It has been a new day. I have responded better. The kids, I’m sure in response to me, are responding to life better. Every day is new. You may be on the wrong track with your kids in general. You may be in a bad week or just having a bad day. I want to encourage you that tomorrow is a new day. Our kids need to understand what forgiveness means, and what it looks like to try and change. They need to understand that no one is perfect and that grace is a gift. I needed to ask forgiveness for some things from yesterday. They did too. It’s a blank slate today. You don’t need to repeat the failures of yesterday. You can start afresh today. Change starts now.
