Day #192 Tip – “That’s a big girl thing.”

I have talked before about keeping things positive. Most kids thrive under an environment where their accomplishments and personalities are complimented. If you make a big deal about things, they want to replicate that behavior. Part of that, in our family, is recognizing ways they are growing and maturing. When they make a good decision or achieve something new you’ll often hear me saying, “That’s a big girl thing.” They get so excited about getting bigger. I don’t want them to rush growing up, and I make sure to emphasize that too. However, I love that they are gaining independence and learning new things every day. This praise can come with potty training, getting themselves dressed, feeding themselves, learning to buckle up in the car, learning to whistle (which has been  the biggest new thing for Abby), writing letters, making a wise moral choice or reading for the first time. There are so many accomplishments we get to praise and celebrate. It is so much fun to help them learn to become the big kids they want to be. For more on keeping it positive see:
