Kids are constantly needing reminders in their training. Really set them up for success by giving them gentle reminders while you are out and about. Prepare them to be a pleasant person to be around. An example of this might be walking up to a friends house. You could say something like, “Remember to say hi, take off your shoes and share well while we are at the Johnson’s house.” You may gently whisper in an ear, “Don’t forget to ask grandma, ‘What can I do to help you?’” There might be a moment aside where you can say, “Why don’t you offer that up for your friend to play with now.” These little asides are fabulous, gentle ways to not draw attention to the whole process but set your child up for successful moments. They often get praised by others in moments like this, which only reinforces the things you are working on with your child.
