Day #185 Hospitality in Practice and 10 Tips for Being Hospitable – Character Development, Week #27

Hospitality
“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” – Hebrews 13:2

I did not take enough pictures of the BBQ we just hosted. Sorry for the one lame picture I snapped. My husband has a guys accountability group that he has been a part of for quite some time. Today we hosted an all family BBQ, and it was a great time to put hospitality into practice. We spoke beforehand with the kids about what it means to be hospitable. I wanted the kids to be prepped for what it means to make people comfortable in our home.

Hospitality in Practice:
1. Prepare as much as you can beforehand so you are available for building relationships during the party.
2. Make your house clean so that others can actually walk around…he he he.
3. Make the food. People gather, bond and build relationships around food. It’s a huge bonding part of the human experience.
4. Greet people as they arrive.
5. Make people feel comfortable by showing them around and letting them know they can help themselves to anything they might need.
6. Share your toys and things. Don’t let your concerns over things get in the way of relationships.
7. Serve our guests. Ask if they need anything.
8. Let other people get their food first. We definitely needed a reminder when the ice cream came out.
9. Take the time during the party to be with, enjoy your guests and engage. Worry about the clean up later so you can be present.
10. Make your guests feel important by asking questions and taking a genuine interest in them.
