Day #183 – Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Display

We are leading up to Abby’s 5th birthday. There are a lot of elements involved, so it’s all about ice cream this week. Well, sort of. I guess today it’s all about cupcakes….cupcakes made to look like ice cream.

Corban helped me make the white velvet cake.
Cut an ice cream cone in half and then stack up the cupcakes.
Next, mix up your frosting, add color and find your tips 12 and 3. I used my real butter buttercream. It’s really humid right now here, so I actually added a bit of shortening and powdered sugar to stiffen it up a bit. Decorate with the frosting. I didn’t use tons of piping techniques, trying to make it look fluffy like ice cream. I did the main piping with a tip 12. The hot fudge I did with a store bought chocolate and piped with a 12. Then, sprinkle on nuts, sprinkles and mini-chocolate chips. I got this idea from Oh Party.

    • You should. It’s not too hard. The white velvet cake is easy too…even for an admitted non-baker like yourself. Just do me a favor, measure accurately this time….even if it seems tedious.
