Basic Sugar Cookie with Lemon Flavoring

This is the sugar cookie recipe I grew up with. My mom is fabulous in the kitchen, and her love of recipes and creating deliciousness in the kitchen is probably where I caught my bug. What I enjoy about this particular sugar cookie recipe is the slight lemon flavor. I thought it would pair well with the red, white and blue cookie tart I made for Fourth of July.

Sugar Cookies With Lemon Flavoring

Cream:
1 1/2 cup sifted powdered Sugar
1 cup butter (softened)

Add:
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon flavor
Mix well.

Add:
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/4-1/2 tsp salt

After all is combined, break into three bunches, cover with plastic and refrigerate 2-3 hours or overnight. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out your cookies. Bake at 375 on lightly greased cookie sheet for 5-10 minutes.
