As I mentioned yesterday, I’m at my sister’s house for a few days. Today is one of her solutions that I think is fabulous. See those bins on the top of the coat cubbies? That is her clutter remedy. Each kid is assigned one of these bins. When clutter is left around the house, it goes into one of their bins. Either she picks it up quickly or they do. Once the bin is full, the kids need to take it upstairs to their rooms and put everything away where it belongs. I think this is a way better solution than throwing everything at the bottom of the stairs like I do. I know my husband will like this idea too. Tripping on the stuff at the bottom of the stairs has definitely not been one of his favorite things.

don’t you have a built in cabinet across from the stairs? Could you put two bins there?
Not big enough. I think I’ve figured it out. Jer is so excited about it.
what’s the plan?
In my closet (right by the stairs) I have a few random kitchen things on the upper shelf. Since putting them there, Jer has built some more shelfing. I can transfer my kitchen stuff to a place that makes more sense and put some bins up there.
I leave stuff at the bottom of the stairs too. I really like this idea, I just wish I had one of these nice cubbies. Although, I also like the idea of a stair basket. Have you seen those? It looks nicer than the pile and it is sort of the same idea. At the end of the day, or when it looks full, the basket gets brought up stairs and the things put away. Great suggestion! Thanks for linking this up at Mom’s Library!
I haven’t seen the stair basket. I have been doing a laundry basket, but I’m working on rearranging some other things so I can follow through on this idea.
OK, I am the same… I put stuff on the bottom step too! haha I need to ponder this idea… thanks Jodi!
No problem. My sister swears by it, and I’m so ready for some sort of solution.
Where can I get a cool cubby? Awesome idea!
