I’m doing a Bible Study called, “Knowing God by Name,” by Mary Kassian. This past week was about some of the more intimate characters of God. One day was the study of “Avi,” which means “Father.” Knowing God as “our father” or even “Abba (Daddy)” is something that really sets Christianity apart from other religions. As the study was discussing what our perfect Father, the Father of our dreams, looks like, I couldn’t help but think that I want my own parenting to reflect His character. I know that some of you reading didn’t have the best example of a father, which makes it hard to understand God’s true heart as a Dad. However, his character is true, and I want my kids to grasp that. Here are some of the many parenting qualities that our Heavenly Father possesses:
* He lavishes us with love. (1 John 3:1)
* He is always near. (Joshua 1:5)
* He protects us. (Psalm 5:11-12)
* He provides for us. (Philippians 4:19)
* He gives us good gifts. (Matthew 7:8-11)
* He guides us. (Romans 8:14)
* He corrects us. (2 Timothy 3:16)
* He comforts us (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17)
* He encourages us (Romans 15:4-5)
* He gives us a spectacular inheritance (Ephesians 1:18, 1 Peter 1:4)
If we keep these godly character at the heart of our parenting, they will be able to catch more of a glimpse of the one true Father who loves them perfectly.

WOW! I love this knowledge that you shared. It’s so awesome to have a Heavenly Daddy who shows us unconditional love 100% of the time isn’t it? Sounds like a terrific Bible study – thanks for sharing.
