A couple of weeks ago I did a post called, “Put the Phone Down.” I wrote it after reading an article that was really convicting. Click back to find my post and this article because what I read and decided has changed me, and I hope it might impact you too. Part of the process for me was deciding to turn off certain alerts on my phone. I still have the ringer on. Text message beep at me too. However, do I really need a sound when someone sends me an email or if it’s my turn on “Words with Friends” or “Drawsome.” I think those alerts spark something in your mind that makes you want to tune in. Therefore, I was constantly returning to my phone to see what was up. To turn off the alerts has helped me begin to turn off that “need to know” in my communications world. The result is really being present with my kids instead of having a desire to constantly be checking on things that, quite simply, can just wait.
