Day #132 – Fish Rock Mosaics

If you were here yesterday, you know that we went to the pet store.  I told you to tune in today to see what we bought.  Do you think I got a pet? Um…no, that’s the last thing I need right now. Fish rocks! That’s the main ingredient for today’s craft. Before we started, I actually introduced them to Gaudi’s work from my own pictures while I was in Spain as well as some I found on the internet.  This is a great introduction to the concept of a mosaic, and practicing  different forms of art are great way to introduce a variety of artists.
Three simple ingredients: fish rocks, glue, and a paper plate.

I gave them ideas of images we could do – including a flower, butterfly, dinosaur, or fish. They chose to do a flower.  Then, I drew a simple image on the paper plate.

Then, we added glue to one section at a time, and they grabbed the right color rocks to put in the spaces.  We all worked together to create this design.

Abby had so much fun with this project that she wanted to make her own designs with no help from me.  My mom had come to visit.  Abby didn’t need a nap, so while her brother and sister were sleeping and I was playing cards with my mom, she was able to sit next to us making her creations.
