Maybe this is just me. I am a stickler when it comes to band – aid. I don’t know why. Maybe this isn’t good advice at all. I just want to remove some of the drama that comes from those unseen hurts that plague my kids. Maybe giving a band aid would be some sort of placebo that takes away the pain. Maybe I should embrace them more. However, for me, I try and ward of the drama by saying that Band-Aids are for open wounds. Am I crazy here?

Yes, we do this too! Exceptions are rare (like blisters), and it helps them understand the purposes of band-aids better. They aren’t for making things “feel better” (and we try not to say that), they are for protecting wounds. We do give lots of kisses and hugs for other types of ouchies though! We rarely offer ice or an ice pack – b/c I can see that becoming dramatic, too. Ice packs are for swelling.
Oh, thank you for commenting. I thought I might be the only one and would get daggers for being so heartless. My oldest, especially, tends to be on the dramatic side, so I really have to try and be on top of that. Thanks!
Here at our house we say if it’s not bleeding you’re fine. To blood no foul. But when they do get scraped up we do take a little bit of time to do some first aid in cleaning and maybe putting on some bactine spray. Band aids are too expensive to give out for every thing. And it I don’t think coddling my kids will help them at all. Acknowledge their hurts and pains and help them move on.
Amen. I really am glad that I’m not the only one.
