Banjo Cake

I have people in this blog world who enjoy seeing some of the cakes I’ve done in the past.  So, every once in a while I thought I’d throw one out there for you.  Thanks for taking an interest in these.  It’s been such a fun hobby for me.  I loved making this cake for my brother-in-law.  He wanted a banjo for his birthday, so my sister thought it would be fun if I did this.  He got a real banjo too.  I built this cake to scale, and I really worked on the details.

    • I had so much fun with this cake. I got all the proper dimension to the cake and even looked up how to make a real banjo to understand how it’s put together. My husband is amazing and was able to make the frame, which was basically a circular piece with the attached neck that gave the basic shape for the banjo. The body was all cake. The neck was built of rice crispy treats. Fondant covered the whole thing. Thanks for taking an interest.

  2. That is so cool, I wish I can make cakes like that. Did you take a class or learned on your own?

    • Thank you! I am pretty much self taught. I did take a couple classes at Michael’s, but it was all dealing with frosting and piping work. I do mostly fondant, so it didn’t translate much even though it was fun. For me, it’s been just a bit of learning with every cake…a lot experimentation. If you have an interest, jump on in. I have loved this hobby.
