I have wanted to do these resurrection rolls ever since I saw them. I’ve seen a number of people do them since, and I’ve continued to love the idea of this visual demonstration of the empty tomb that was found Easter morning. I got some of the recipe from The Sister’s Cafe. The other portion of the recipe is my own bread machine roll recipe that has been my favorite over the years…and I know something about rolls. My cousin and I used to have roll eating competitions at Thanksgiving, so I know rolls. It was so fun to wrap the marshmallows up in the roll dough, saying we are showing how Jesus was put away in a tomb. Yes, Jesus is a marshmallow in this analogy. It was so fun they where done baking to be able to open up the roll, peek inside and find no more marshmallow. The kids loved it. Here’s the recipe:
Dinner Rolls
1 cup water
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 egg
3 1/4 cups bread flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
3 tsp regular active dry yeast
OR
3 tsp bread machine yeast or quick-acting active dry yeast.
Directions:
1. Place all dough ingredients in bread pan in the order listed.
2. Choose the dough cycle and press start.
3. Grease a cookie sheet. Divide dough into 15 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter. Cover; let rise 30-40 minutes or until double.
4. Head oven to 375. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
That is the roll recipe. This is what you do with the dough if you are doing the resurrection rolls. Do the above up through #2. Then follow these directions:
Resurrection Rolls
Your own rolls – can be the ones above (amazingly yummy) or even store bought refrigerator rolls.
Your own rolls – can be the ones above (amazingly yummy) or even store bought refrigerator rolls.
6 TB sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 bag large marshmallows
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tsp cinnamon
1 bag large marshmallows
1/4 cup butter, melted
Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.Divide the dough into individual roll sized portions.Press each portion into a flat circle.Place 1 large marshmallow in the center of each roll.Pinch roll dough very firmly around the marshmallow.Roll each into a seamless, or nearly seamless, ball with your hands.Brush rolls with melted butter.Sprinkle sugar mixture over rolls.Cover rolls with plastic wrap and put in the fridge overnight. On Sunday morning, preheat oven to 350°.Take rolls out of fridge and bake for 15 minutes until rolls are golden brown. Be careful not to overbake.(These may also be baked without sitting overnight. After wrapping the marshmallow in them, let them rise for about an hour or so and then bake them as usual.)

We tried this earlier this week and loved it.

Thanks so much for thinking of me for the One Lovely Blog. Hope you had a great Easter.
Great recipe. I will have to find a recipe that doesn’t use a bread machine. I don’t have one. I have always loved the idea of these rolls. Loved the pics of the children baking. You have got it right, little Mama. Just keep loving them and being active with them.
I pray that you and your family have a joyful Easter, Ginger
