Day #88 Helpfulness Necklace – Character Development, Week #13

Helpfulness
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to sin; but through love serve one another.” – Galatians 5:13

Maybe I watch too much “Survivor,” but here’s my own version of an immunity necklace…a helpful necklace.  For Kenzie’s birthday she received a necklace making kit from Melissa and Doug.
We made two necklaces (Kenzie is really good at sharing, so she was willing to let Abby have one).  These necklaces would be a reward for me catching them in a helpful moment. They can’t tell me they’re being helpful, and it’s not when I ask them to do something.  They are able to wear the necklace when I see it and say it.  Then, they get to wear their necklace for fifteen minutes.  This is a way for me to acknowledge the ways I see them taking initiative in helping.  I know a necklace is a girl thing.  For you moms of boys out there, I was thinking you could attach an H to a cape and have the “Helpfulness Cape” in your home.
