Day #78 Tip – It’s OK Not to Know the Answer

Part of why I began this blog is because parenting has been so challenging for me.  I really didn’t think it would be too hard if you were consistent, had some basic techniques and theories under your belt and loved kids.  Oh, was I wrong.  I constantly question myself.  I haven’t known how to handle a myriad of situations we discover ourselves in with our kids.  I have found myself so frustrated and impatient.  I have not known the answers.  I have sought out other professional parents to help.  I also observe.  That’s part of why I wanted to pass along parenting tips to you.  It’s also OK not to know the answer when it comes to your kids’ questions.  They’re going to ask you so many questions, and you’re not going to know everything.  It’s OK to let them know you don’t know.  It’s OK to let them know that you don’t know how to handle a certain situation when dealing with them.  Teach them that you, too, are a life long learner.  Teach them how to really seek out answers…whether it’s to help with parenting or homework.  You will be the best one to model what it is like to be constantly growing.

  1. oh yeah parenting is not an easy job that is for sure. I find myself learning every day, I am so afraid to make mistakes and also question myself a lot. Thanks for this post it is ok not to know everything.

  2. Jodi,
Knowing that you *don’t* know it all… and being able to admit it and look for the answers… is {in my opinion} what makes the BEST mommies. I’d say you’re one of the best I’ve followed.
    Blessings,
    Colleen
