Week #9 Character Development – Kindness Word Ring, Day #57

Kindness

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32

Reason Chosen: My kids generally get along really well. They really enjoy each other…for the most part. Lately, it feels like they’ve learned to push each others buttons a bit more. I thought it was time to teach them to how to be kind. Some people say, “It’s just my sister.” We want to train our kids that in our family we’re kind especially because it’s your sister. That said, of course we want kindness to all people. I like the quote, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” — Maya Angelou. We are called to bring all of our actions to the standard of trying to reveal the glory of God to others. Think of enjoyable experiences you’ve had along this road of life that have brought you happiness. Often times, the root of that moment was the kindness someone showed you. Kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s day, and we would love for our kids to be ones that breathe energy into people’s lives like that.

Word Ring
At the beginning of each week, the craft will be exactly the same because we will simply be adding a new word to our already established word ring.

Materials Needed
* Stock Card Paper (I had a whole stack like this – found at any craft store)
* Assorted Sticker Letters (I just bought a bunch on clearance at Michael’s)
* Binder Clips (Craft Store)
* Paper Cutter or Scissors
* Hole Punch
The girls chose a paper style they thought would look good with the letters they chose. We then helped them sound out “kindness.” They took turns finding the letters we needed and sticking them on the paper…they’re kids – the letters will not be stuck on perfect. I then cut the paper to the same size as the paper from last week. We punched a hole in the corner and stuck it on our binding clip. Each week, a new word will be added to the clip in similar fashion. I then wrote the Bible verse on the back. If your kids are older, have them do it themselves. We’ll spend this week learning the word, meaning and memorizing the scripture.
