We’ve all heard it, but do you know how many times I’ve told my kids, “Have a happy heart!” through gritted teeth and angry thoughts running through my head. Have you seen me yell, “Have patience!” at my kids. Ahh! It’s so simple, right? Model it. This parenting process is as refining to us as it is to our kids. However, if you want your kids to use kind words, use them. If you want your child to honor their husband or father, you need to honor your husband. If you want your kids to be productive, you need to be productive. There’s the famous phrase, “Do what I say, not what I do.” If only it were that easy. It will never work, so start modeling that behavior you want.
