Week #2 Character Development – Patience Day #14

I often sing the “Be Patient” song with my kids that I learned from Herbert the Snail when I was a kid.  It was from a cassette tape series (remember that time) called “Music Machine.”  I found the song on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kn6Z2Mop5I.  Although they were familiar with the song, they weren’t familiar with Herbert the Snail and had never heard the whole song.  So, we listened to this a few time and talked about the message.  Then, we decided to make our own clay snails.  You can definitely use play-doh too, but Abby had received some clay for Christmas in her stocking, so we used that.
First roll out two “snakes” – a shorter one and a longer one.

Next, we squished them a bit and rolled them up.
Then, we simply put the rolled “snake” on top of the shorter one.  We added eyes and antennas too.
And there you have Herbert the Snail. Also want to let you a know about a great book series that has a wonderful book on patience.  The series is called “Building Christian Character.”  The author is Michael P. Waite, and he has a number of books.  Here’s the link to the one on patience:
