Perseverance
One of the things I see kids struggling to persevere through is obedience. It is hard work to learn to obey. I have defined perseverance to my kids as “trying and trying and trying until you can do something.” I have explained to them that when they persevere, the task at hand gets easier and easier. Once your children begin obeying it becomes more natural for them. So, I wanted to teach them to persevere in their obedience.
To bring this thought home, today we made a necklace money holder.
Necklace Money Holder
Materials List:
* Yarn
* A Variety of Ribbons
* Beads
* Film Canisters
* Scissors
* Glue
Poke a tiny hole in the center of the lid. Cut a two foot piece of yarn. Thread the two ends of the yarn down from the top through the hole in the lid. You may need a pencil to help push the ends through. Knot the two ends together, and pull the knot up tight against the inside of the lid. Thread craft beads onto the double strand of yarn outside the lid. Slide the beads down. Decorate the outside of the canister with ribbon and trim by gluing the ribbon around the canister.
The way the necklace works into perseverance is that they were able to wear there necklaces all day. Any time they obeyed right away with obedient words (“Yes, Mommy!” or “OK”), obedient actions and a good attitude, they received a penny for their money necklace. Their perseverance in obedience yielded more reward.
