Today we did another learning activity I used to play with my tutoring students. Again, you can vary it to any level of beginning reader. I had Kenzie (2 1/2) working on her letters and sounds while I had Abby (4 1/2) working on sight words and phonics.
The game can look a few different ways. 1) You can call out a letter, sound or word and have them jump to the right square. 2) They can just jump around calling out where they are jumping 3) You can get a stone or pine cone and have them throw it and jump there (similar to hop scotch) while telling you the letter, word or sound of that space. It’s an active and fun way to get them learning. They don’t even feel like they are working.
Nice idea combined many learning styles.
