· Reward Randomly. I learned this Psych 101. Remember the story of the Skinner rats who received random rewards? Those were the ones who obeyed more frequently. So, I reward randomly at my house. We have a reward chart too, but sometimes I just choose times where I see really good attitudes, behavior or obedience. I keep stickers or treats in the car. If they’ve been good in a store or quick buckling up or pleasant on the car ride I will, every once in a while, give them a reward. The same goes around the house. At random, I will reward with an activity, t.v. show, book, treat, sticker, etc. Another aspect of this is that if they ask, they don’t get a reward.
