Day #17 – Baking Day

I have some preparations for a shower I’m co-hosting this coming weekend.  Rather than try and get it all done when the kids are napping, I decided to have them get involved.  After all, the goal of the blog is to be more intentional with my kids. Baking is one of the things my kids love.  We love to do it together.  I’ve written about it before, but I’ll say it again for those just joining in the conversation. Baking is a learning opportunity for kids.  You can teach counting, measuring, fractions, reading and work on our word for the week – self control.  My kids help me bake from early on in their lives.  I even help my 15 month old learn to dump ingredients.  My rule is if they’re making it challenging and not being helpful, they are done helping.  I have a cake hobby, and I often bake my cakes or cupcakes in advance and wrap them in plastic and then in foil.  This cuts down on the last minute prep but I’ve also read that it makes cakes more moist.  I’ve had great results.  Frosting a frozen cake actually cuts down on the crumbs when you are doing a crumb coat.  Today, we worked on making Key Lime Cupcakes, Chocolate Cupcakes with an Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting and my test run on new Lemon Tartlets.  Recipes are in the following posts.
